		<description>I&#039;m all for choice.  I&#039;m all for personalized news. I totally believe consumers will vote with their clicks, and purchase habits.  I sure hope there&#039;s something really extra special being offered here, because I just don&#039;t see anyone under 60 wanting to have a special newspaper-printer-slash-modem hooked up to their homes. I&#039;ve seen (and participated) in all kinds of newspaper experiments too, I&#039;ve been working with them for over 9 years.  I don&#039;t think this idea has legs, but there are parts of the idea that will win (as I mentioned, the idea of aggregated content also being delivered).  So, in your examples of Napster/iTunes, Blockbuster/NetFlix, etc, parts of ideas win and parts loose.  VHS/Beta?  Not always does the better technology win.  Personalize my news, and send me a PDF (or a morning digest newsletter into my inbox).  Fine!  Beautiful.  I get that. Great Idea.  Ask me to set up a printer for my home?  No.  Parts of this will win. Parts of this will fail. 

I wish MediaNews the best, because I don&#039;t want to see Newspapers collapse and become obsolete.  I applaud efforts to try.  I applaud and pay for &lt;strong&gt;smart&lt;/strong&gt; efforts.</description>

		<description>Interesting.  I had thought that the new web slices were going to be an interesting technology for users to use, but I hadn&#039;t thought that some sites may not want to make use of them, like you say, those that need traffic ON thier pages to serve ads.  

However, I wonder if this is the same fear those kinds of sites had when RSS first came out?  I guess time will tell if technologies like RSS or Web Slices (or anything else the next-gen broswers will invent) will help drive traffic to sites by giving users notification, or if they will drive traffic away because people are simply OK scanning the headlines and not drilling in for the full story. 

In either case, this is just further proof that the home page is no longer the home page.  All these (RSS &amp; Web Slices) drive people directly do the article page (or the detail page), bypassing the home page.  This is not new; usability folks have known that the detail pages get seen without home pages for a while.

It should start with your own site, researching both how people are &#039;currently&#039; finding you, as well as developing a profile for who your visitors are - via your analytics.

I find that looking at my long tail searches also give me more ideas for future articles.
